Karen J. Blummer

Karen Joy Blummer, nee Hartog, age 80, of Schererville, IN, went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 11, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Terry L. Blummer. Loving mother of Lori (Brian) Gouwens, Kris (Dale) Olthoff, and Shelley (Dan) Hoffman. Proud grandmother of Brad (Sara) Gouwens, Paige Gouwens, Micah Gouwens, Alyssa (Ted) Niemiec, Grant Olthoff, Jake (fiancée Maddie Dornack) Olthoff, Colin (Olivia) DeYoung, Maddie DeYoung, and Delaney (Jacob) Bultema; great grandmother of Jonas Niemiec. Dear sister of the late Dorothy (Bernard (Barb )) Bruinius, Jacqueline (George) Van Ryn, Henry (late Bonnie) Hartog, and Diane (John) Decker. Kind aunt of several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Jack and Jennie Hartog. 

Karen loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing games and visits with family and friends. Karen was deeply loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Visitation Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN with services conducted by Rev. Jim Hollendoner. Private family interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens – Schererville, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given Munster Church, 214 Ridge Rd. Munster, IN.
