Kathleen R. Dennis, nee Denson, age 86, of South Holland, IL, passed away peacefully Friday, October 18, 2019. Beloved wife of Richard Dennis. Loving mother of Cindy (Garry) Wollenzien, Christina (Paul) Bennett, Roger (Dawn) Dennis, Richard (Karin) Dennis, Peter Dennis, and Ruby (Fred) Weber. Proud grandmother of Crystal (Manly) McIlwain, Jordan (Meghan) Bennett, Jade (Eric) Mueller and Sarah Dennis; great-grandmother of Kaiden and Pierce. Dear sister of the late John Denson and late Edward Denson. Preceded in death by her parents John F. and Ruby Bell Denson.
For more than 40 years Kathleen and her husband of 64 years, Richard brightened busy Cottage Grove with their beautiful yard. “Its fun to garden. I love to be outside.” Kathleen has said. At times she has even been out in her garden after dark and Richard would have to encourage her to come in for the night. She especially loved birdhouses, as evidenced by the numerous birdhouses in their yard.
She was very patriotic and loved reading about historical events. Her favorite president was Abraham Lincoln. How precious for her to pass away doing what she loved best, caring for her garden under the flagpole with the American flag waving above her.
One of Kathleen’s favorite songs is In the Garden:
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear
Falling on my ear
The song of God discloses
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am his own
And the joy we share
As we tarry there
None other has ever known
He speaks and the sound
Of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody
That He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am his own
And the joy we share
As we tarry there
None other has ever known
