Kenneth Dean Vantrease, age 86, of St. John, IN, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Beloved husband of Carol R. Vantrease nee Grinstead. Loving father of Cindy (Rev. Jeff ) Sheeks and Kathy (Ted) Chapman. Cherished grandfather of Karl (Anna) Sheeks, Katie (Brandon) Jordan, Riley ( Ashley) Chapman, Elliott (Rachel) Chapman, and Mackenzie (Ryan) Imhoff. Great grandfather of Karson, Owen, Elijah, Noah, Mia, and Ellis. Kind and loving caregiver Eunice Kadzakumanja. Preceded in death by his parents Josiah and Alberta Vantrease. Kenneth was a proud Veteran of the United States Army serving as an MP. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Kenneth was born in Gary, Indiana and loved playing basketball and marching band at Horace Mann High School. He met his wife of sixty-five years at Glen Park Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent, choir member, youth group leader and Awana Club Director. He loved his Savior and sharing Christ with others. He later attended Lake Hills Baptist Church where he served as head usher, choir member and Commander of the Awana program. He really enjoyed his adult Sunday School Class.

He started working with National Life Insurance company when he was 19 years of age and spent the later part of his life with The Great Escape. He loved working with the Gideon’s International. His favorite things to do were fishing, camping, golfing, his cottage, the Chicago Cubs and above all else, anytime spent with his family!!

Visitation with family and friends to be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. directly at Lake Hills Baptist Church 9209 W 85th Ave, Schererville, IN 46375 , and Wednesday, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service Wednesday, October 1, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at Lake Hills Baptist Church. Private interment at Calumet Park Cemetery – Merrillville, IN. In Lieu of flowers memorials to the Lake Hills Baptist Church appreciated.
