Kurt Allen Heerema, age 22, of Schererville, IN, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016. Loving son of Kenneth and Debra Heerema. Dear brother of Kevin (Kylie) Heerema. Fond nephew of Roger (Kendra) Heerema, Michelle Sargent, and Thomas (Michele) Shirvin; great-nephew of Grace (late Bob) Nowicki; and several cousins. He is also survived by his “adopted” grandparents at the lake, Curt and Elizabeth Helgren, and preceded in death by grandparents Egbert and Geraldine Heerema and Art and Dorothy Shirvin. Visitation Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Funeral service Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Faith Church (100 - 81st Ave. Dyer, IN) at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Bouwer and Pastor Jason DeVries officiating.
