Laura Lea Smith

Laura Lea Smith, nee Stewart, age 55, of Crete, IL, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018. Beloved wife of Harry Smith. Loving mother of Seth Joseph, Eliana Joy, and late infants Levi James, Elise Hope, and Jesse Lee. Beloved daughter of Jean and the late Tommy Stewart, Sr. Dear sister of Donna Christian, Tommy (Joyce) Stewart, Jr., Mary (Chris) Brooks, the late Ronald Stewart, Jennifer (Keith) Joyner-Campbell, Jacque (Dave) Joyner-McGrath, and Julana (Rick) Joyner-Long. Adored aunt of several nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

Visitation Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Lane) Dyer, IN. On Wednesday, September 26, 2018 a short visitation time will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Village Church 14849 93rd Avenue Dyer, IN. A lunch will follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Smith Family to help with medical and funeral expenses, from which they will also make a contribution to Dorcas House. Dorcas House is a home in Romania for girls who have aged out of and left the state orphanage, but have no place to go. Dorcas House provides a safe and caring home for these girls as they work and transition into the community. Laura Lea took a year off from her paid teaching career to serve as a missionary to Dorcas House and continued to be a supportive contributor since.
