Listen to Obituary

Linda Marie Hallman, age 71, of Steger, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Loving mother of Kenneth Houdek, Roxanne Hallman, and Vanessa Rodriguez. Cherished grandmother of Osheanna Williams, Orianna Brazill, Otyana Wells, Martell Hines Jr., Olivia Daughrity, Matthew Hallman, Arnell Elam Jr., and Jordan Houdek. Dear great grandmother of six. Caring sister of the late Larry (Judy) Harden and the late James (Suzanne) Harden. Aunt to one niece and nephew. A simple obituary cannot fully encapsulate Linda's life, but it serves as a tribute to a woman who was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

Mama spent her younger years as a waitress. I remember helping her count the change out of her smock when she came home, but most would remember her as the Kwik Mart Lady. She worked at the location in Chicago Heights for about 10 years before spending another 15 at the Hammond, IN location. She ended her life of long, hard work, and dedication with Amazon in Monee where she made great friends and attended lunch dates often after taking leave. She met many people throughout her years of working with the public, opening her door often, and never hesitating to go above and beyond to help; ultimately leaving a great impact on others!

Linda, who many knew as “Mom” spent her days dedicating her love to her home, family, and others. First thing that comes to mind is how she kept an immaculate house with many knickknacks and pictures displayed along her walls. She loved her yard and spent so many days caring for the pool, tomato plants, and getting out there on her hands and knees pulling dandelions, every last one! She found comfort with her home being in tiptop shape, inside out. On hot summer days she enjoyed floating around in the pool and a good BBQ. She also loved decorating for the holidays and boy was it a sight to see. Everyone looked forward to her deviled eggs, Jell-O pie, and snack trays at gatherings. Everything was extravagant! I mean she went all out making sure we knew how much she loved us and was there for us. Now don’t get me wrong, Mama was a hard-working woman. For a long time, faithfully, she worked seven days a week, but always made sure to attend family and friends gatherings and events. Every summer she looked forward to our traditional Indiana Beach trip. We’d spend the day out on the lake tubing and jet-skiing. Afterwards, we spent the evenings on the pier feeding fish and going on rides. The smile on her face as she waved watching us enjoy the night. She really cherished creating memories together as a family.

Her love has touched many, changed lives, and even saved some along the way. Mama’s life didn’t come easy, but you would have never known her struggles for the way she gave, cared, and loved others. She was definitely an Angel in flesh and we were so blessed to have her. You will truly be missed and adored forever!
