**CSX Railroad will close U.S. 30 at their crossing between Hart St and Calumet Ave on Monday, April 27 during which all lanes of U.S. 30 will be closed at the railroad crossing for approximately 6 days while CSX conducts work on their crossing. From the west use Glenwood/Lansing Rd to Calumet Ave, turn right on Calumet Ave heading south to Route 30, turn left on Route 30 heading east one mile to the funeral home.**

Linda J. Kammert, nee Roth, age 72, of Thornton, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Beloved wife of William Kammert. Loving mother of Kevin (Devyn) Kammert. Proud grandmother of Campbell Rose and Kyler William Kammert. Dear sister of Patricia (Kevin) Wall, William (Jean) Roth, Robert (Tina) Roth and Barbara Roth. Kind aunt of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents William and Patricia Roth. Linda devoted her life to helping those who needed it the most.

As an educator for 40 plus years, dedicated to serving, mentoring, and teaching those with special needs, Linda touched the lives and hearts of countless students and families. Following retirement, Linda continued her dedication to public service, serving as President of the Thornton Public Library. Linda was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Visitation Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Visitation also Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. directly at Christ Our Savior Catholic Church prior to the Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Gosbert Rwezahura and Deacon Jim Renwick officiating.
