Lloyd Calvin Burkholder

Lloyd Calvin Burkholder, age 88, of Hobart, IN passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019.  Lloyd married the love of his life, Barbara Jean, 60 years ago on April 4, 1959. Lloyd is survived by his wife Barbara Jean (nee Sikorski); son Brett (Carol); daughters Melissa (Robert) Wermers and Linda (Jeffre y ) Allen. Loving Papa to Derek (Lia) Wermers and their daughters Genevieve & Tabitha; Rachel (Kyle) Emery and their children Trevor, Tate & Ellie; Kurt (Nicci) Wermers and their son Macklin Lloyd; Jacob Burkholder; Brenna (Mike) Boyd and their son Kieran; Jared Allen; Noah Burkholder; Jenna, Jorie, and John Allen. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Cooper of Arizona, brother-in-law David (Irene) Sikorski, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Lloyd and Laura (nee Nelson) and in-laws Chester and Genevieve Sikorski (nee Litoborski), as well as brother-in-law Dennis (Lois) Sikorski. Lloyd served as a staff sgt. in the USAF 335 th Fighter Interceptor Squadron 4 th Fighter Interceptor Group APO 76 during the Korean Conflict. In civilian life, Lloyd was a police officer in Arcadia, California. In 1960 Lloyd relocated to Calumet City, Illinois and was co-owner of Jean’s Bakery in Harvey, Illinois. Lloyd and Barbara retired to Hobart, Indiana to be close to family and friends.

V isitation Thursday, July 4, 2019 from 4 :00 - 8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral H ome, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane Dyer, IN with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation Friday, July 5, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. d irectly at St. M aria Goretti Catholic Church, 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN with Rev Charles Niblick officiating. Luncheon to follow. Interment Resurrection Cemetery – Justice, IL will be done privately for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hobart Humane Society.
