M. Gene Kimmel, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 28, 2016. Mr. Kimmel spent over 30 years as an educator and retired as Superintendent of Schools in Calumet City, IL, and later was involved in various businesses. He served two years in the U.S. Army. He was an elder and deacon at Christian Fellowship Church, and was devoted fully to his family.
Mr. Kimmel was born in East St. Louis, IL on February 19, 1932. He was married December 28, 1952 to Marjorie L. Ladley in Pleasant Plains, IL. He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Marjorie, his parents Ira and Wilma, and his daughter, Kira. He is survived by his sister, Carol Kimmel Allsup, his two sons, Michael and Matt (Cindy), his two daughters, Kris (Herm) Hoge, and Karyl (David) Molchan, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation Friday, December 2, 2016 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 3 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Interment - Oakland Memory Lanes, Dolton, IL.
