Marcia Spahr (nee Hook), age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2026 in Franklin, Tennessee.
Born in 1944 in Lansing, Illinois, Marcia lived a life marked by lasting friendships, a distinctive sense of style, and a deep appreciation for time spent with the people she loved.
She was a somewhat quiet person, yet she genuinely enjoyed the company of others. She was happiest in the simple pleasures of being together: a game night with friends, a meal shared around the family table, or an ordinary day made a little more special simply because everyone was there. She had a way of making these moments feel like occasions, reflecting her belief that time together was something to be cherished.
Her early working years took her by train into Chicago, where she worked at the Leo Burnett advertising agency. In time, she turned to hairdressing, becoming well known for her work in her community, and having a dear and loyal clientele. Her own style was equally memorable. For decades, she was recognized by her signature hairstyle, an unmistakable part of her appearance and a reflection of a personal style all her own. After moving to Bradenton, Florida in 1991, she found meaningful work as an Administrative Assistant at Bethel Baptist Church. It was there that she met and married Bob Spahr, to whom she has been married 32 years.
Marcia called Franklin, Tennessee home for the past 15 years, as she and Bob moved there to be near her daughter Heather and family. It was her great joy to see her granddaughters grow up, attending their volleyball games, special school plays and functions, and always making a point to make a meal around the table a common shared experience.
She is survived by her husband Robert, daughter Heather (Brian) Williams, granddaughters Taylor and Avery, sisters Carol (late Cornelius) Sikma, Jan (Wayne) DeGraaf, Nanci (Scott) VanVlymen, Laurel (Ken) Dykstra and brother Bruce (Scott Kjeer) Hook.
Throughout her life, Marcia's family grew through marriage, bringing Rodger (Angelique) Mejan, Rob (Rosalie) Spahr, Cindee (Charlie) Mueller, 6 additional grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren into her extended family.
She was preceded in death by parents William and Christine Hook, brother William, infant sister Rhonda and husband Bernard Mejan.
Services to be held Thursday, October 22, 2026, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN. Interment to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lansing, Illinois.
