Margaret Tromp

Margaret Tromp, nee Sterk, age 92, of Crete, IL, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 5, 2023.  Loving wife of the late Nelson L. Tromp.  Devoted mother of Larry Allen (Marcia) Tromp, Cheryl Lynn (Mark) Brandmueller, and Cindy Joy (Scott) Lawbaugh.  Proud grandmother of Allen (Scarlett) Tromp, Vicki Garrett, John (Kia) Ganz, Melissa (Eric) Foster, and Mark Tromp; great-grandmother of Mia, Jenna, Sophia, Van, Benjamin, Reno, Seth, Maelyn, and Rafe.  Dearest sister of 7 sisters and 7 brothers.  Kind aunt of many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her parents Cornelius and Winifred Sterk.

A farmers wife and a homemaker, she raised her family in South Holland, IL. Throughout her life, she was caregiver to her siblings, husband, children, and grandchildren.  She gave selflessly, volunteering many hours and years at the Holland Home and ETC until her body ached. Her sister Carrie made sure mom was kept busy after dad passed. Mom and Aunt Carrie were 2 peas in a pod and mom was left with a huge void when Aunt Carrie left this world almost 11 years ago to this day. She loved flowers and plants and had such a green thumb. Mom would be so worried about losing any of them. She didn’t like to have pictures taken of herself but put a baby in her arms and the smile on her face was priceless. After her own children, it started with a “double dose” of twin babies (Allen and Vicki), followed by John, Melissa, and Mark. Next came the following generation of Mia, Jenna, Sophie, Van, Ben, Reno, Seth, Maelyn, and Rafe.  Margaret was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.), Dyer, IN.  Interment Homewood Memorial Gardens Cemetery – Homewood, IL.
