Marjorie J. Carstensen

Marjorie J. Carstensen, nee Gardstrom, age 91, of St. John, IN, passed away on December 22, 2025. Loving wife of Ernst E. Carstensen and dear sister of Dwight Gardstrom. Preceded in glory by her sister Pearl (Gardstrom) Winter and parents, John and Dorothy (Johnson) Gardstrom. She was a beloved aunt, great aunt, and dear sister in Jesus Christ.

Marjorie attended Wheaton College and the University of Washington for elementary education and learning disabilities degrees. She loved the little children in prekindergarten to second grade. Marjorie taught at Tabernacle Christian Academy and Fellowship Christian Academy, both in Chicago, IL and Seattle Public Schools in Seattle, WA. She taught for over 50 years. She was a gifted photographer and painter and loved being in the outdoors. Marjorie was full of joy, humor, and above all loved the Lord Jesus.

Visitation Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.), Dyer, IN.
