Marjorie Jane DeYoung, nee Oling, age 97 of South Holland, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2020. Marjorie was the beloved wife of the late Henry D. DeYoung, M.D. She was born to Harry N. and Jennie Oling of Dolton, IL. Her mother passed away from a brain tumor when she was six years old. She lived her childhood years with her aunt and uncle, Johanna and Nick Rinkema of South Holland, IL, so that her father could farm in Elwood, IL. She became like a sister to their daughters, the late Nellie, the late Geraldine and Joyce. Marjorie graduated from Thornton Junior College and married Henry D. DeYoung on September 19, 1944. Initially Henry was in the Navy and they moved first to San Diego, CA followed by Seattle, WA. Coming back to the Midwest, they settled in Oak Park, IL, followed by Roseland, IL, and finally back to South Holland, IL. Henry maintained medical practices in those areas and was on the staff of Rush Medical Center.
Marjorie was the loving mother of Jeanne M. (Larry) Bright of Ypsilanti, MI, Barbara L. (late John) Groenewold of Crete, IL, the late Sylvia J. DeYoung of Godfrey, IL, David H. (Joan) DeYoung of Export, PA, and James A. (Cheryl) DeYoung of South Holland, IL.
Marjorie was the devoted grandmother of six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Timothy (Kimberly) Groenewold (Sydney, Tyler) of Dyer, IN, Mark Groenewold of Crete, IL, Emily (Jon) Bakker (Jori, Elise, Tessa, Sam, Kate, Lacey, Libby) of Neebing, Ontario, Henry DeYoung and Andrew DeYoung of Export, PA, and Jonathan DeYoung of Greensboro, NC.
Marjorie was the dear sister of the late Jasper (late Rose Marie) Oling and the aunt of three nieces and one nephew.
Marjorie and Henry provided loving care to their mentally handicapped daughter, Sylvia, who attended Elim Christian School as a child and lived her adult years at Beverly Farm Foundation. They were very committed to Beverly Farm and participated on the board in various capacities over the years. Marjorie and Henry enjoyed travelling on family vacations and medical conventions together. Marjorie enjoyed knitting and quilt making and participated in quilt groups and the guild. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and kept up her skills until moving to the Holland Home. Marjorie was an inspiration as she lovingly and steadfastly cared for Henry through his three year struggle with ALS. He was always happiest with her at his side. Marjorie was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in South Holland and enjoyed church fellowship and society groups.
