Marlene C. Sarros, nee Arens, age 87, of Schererville, IN, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 13, 2018, after a wonderful life. She loved and was much loved by her family. She is survived by seven devoted children: Linda Sarros, Barbara (Ray) Adams, Polly (Frank) Malloy, Steven (Amy) Sarros, Nicholas (Beth) Sarros, David (Melanie) Sarros, and Mark (Kim) Sarros; 22 affectionate grandchildren: Lauren (Ryan) Maus, Peter Clarke, Logan, Danielle and Luke Malloy, Caroline (Justin) Colley, RuthMarie (Jonathan) Chatfield, Alexander, Emily and William Sarros, Anthony and Meg Sarros, Drew (Dana), Lily, Noah, Owen and Nina Sarros, Alexandra, Valerie, Nathan, Meghan and Christian Sarros; four great-grandchildren: Tess, Ben, James, and Ellie; her sister Patricia (late Jack) Rassel and many loved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by George, her husband of 60 years, her parents: Anthony and Marie and siblings: Florence (late Leo) Kamradt, Austin (Loretta) Arens, and Joseph Arens. Marlene graduated from Thornton Fractional High School. She was employed with Acme Steel after her post-high school education, was a partner in a family business, and an active member of St. Michael's Parish, but her proudest accomplishment was her family, who will miss her dearly. Marlene was an avid fan of any sports team or band for which her children or grandchildren played. She joyfully, and enthusiastically, attended innumerable games and concerts. You could frequently find her at local theatrical performances and women’s golf outings.

Visitation Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Prayer service Friday, November 16, 2018, at 9:15 a.m. from Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Ln.), Dyer, IN, to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1 E. Wilhelm St., Schererville, IN, for a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Private inurnment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL, will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Michael’s Church or Hospice of the Calumet Area, greatly appreciated.
