Martha Van Proyen, nee Groenenboom , age 97, of Schererville, IN, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Arie Van Proyen. Loving mother of William (late Bonnie) Van Proyen, Diane (Gerry) Wiers,  Arie (Laura) Van Proyen, and John (Laurel) Van Proyen.  Devoted grandmother of Jeff (Elizabeth) Wiers, Amanda (Jeff) Brouwer, Pam (Phil) Lowther, Stephen (Kristin) Van Proyen, Sarah (Brian) Peterman, Aaron (Catherine) Van Proyen, Kim (Jonathan) Bruce, Annie (Connor) Klingbeil and great-grandmother of 19.  Dear sister of Bep van Helden, Arie Groenenboom and Hugo Groenenboom.  Preceded in death by her parents Arie and Adriantje Groenenboom and 3 sisters and 3 brothers.   Martha was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Phil Lowther and Rev. Sam Hamstra officiating.  Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery – Lansing, IL.
