Marvin C. Triemstra

Marvin Carl Triemstra passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2022, surrounded by members of his dear family.

Beloved husband of Joyce (Vanderae) Triemstra for over 66 years. Cherished father to Karleen (Tony) Panozzo, Rick (Lisa) Triemstra, Gregg (Cheri) Triemstra, Jay (Carolyn) Triemstra and Joel (Kathie) Triemstra. Dear brother to Dorothy (late Henry) Ravesloot and sister-in-law Marilyn (late Ed) Valette. Loving grandfather to Dana (Craig) Spoolstra, Brad (Cindy) Panozzo, Toni Jo (Andrew) Schmidt, Kimberly (Sean) Quirk, Robert (Dawn) Triemstra, Jennifer (Kevin) Boer, Rebecca (Brian) Coffelt, Doug (Lauren) Triemstra, Jami Triemstra-Hilt, Nicolas (Amanda) Triemstra, Alex Triemstra, Taylor (Ryan) Hunter, Tyler (Katie) Triemstra, Jordan (Leah) Triemstra and 30 great grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, John and Dolly (DeYoung) Triemstra, his sisters Lorraine (late Fred) Koster and Harriet (late Joseph) Peer, sister-in-law Gladys Schepel Howard (late Mel & late Joseph) and dear infant grandson, Brian Panozzo.

Marvin was born on July 6, 1929 in South Holland, Illinois, the only son and fourth child of John Carl and Dolly Triemstra. He was welcomed by his three loving sisters, Lorraine, Harriet and Dorothy.

Marv served proudly in the Army in Korea from 1951-1953. Upon his homecoming, he returned to his position at Baltimore & Ohio Railroad/Chessie Systems where he remained until his retirement in 1989.

Marvin dedicated over 25 years of service to the South Holland Fire Department faithfully serving as firefighter, president, lieutenant and captain, following in the tradition of his father John Triemstra and grandfather Richard DeYoung, who were among the first firefighters in South Holland. His son Rick and grandsons Robert, Nicolas and Tyler and his grandson in law, Sean made him extraordinarily proud by carrying on the firefighter legacy, as well as Doug, who became a paramedic.

Marvin loved fishing, traveling, golfing and skiing. He spent many years traveling to Minnesota, Michigan, Canada and Florida to enjoy all of these activities along with his beloved wife, family and many, many friends.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private family service will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
