Mary V. Akers

Mary V. Akers, nee Carmichael, age 92, of Schererville, IN, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021.  Beloved wife of the late Norman Akers. Loving mother of the late Sandy (late Karen) Akers, late Randy Akers, Alice Akers, Danny (Nina) Akers, Bunny (John) Guyer, and Lance (Lisa) Akers. Cherished grandmother of  many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Dear sister of Katherine Neill, Clete Carmichael, Johnny Carmichael, Alice Marks, Phillip Carmichael, and Sharon Garringer. Fond aunt of many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers, and by her parents Harley and Hazel Carmichael.

Mary was deeply devoted and loyal to her family. It was her great joy to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a contagious sense of humor. Mary was always generous even after growing up in the hardship of the Great Depression. She found joy in simple things - working puzzles, playing games, drinking a Pepsi, watching Chicago Bulls basketball and visiting with loved ones. Her love, laughter and generosity is a legacy she leaves behind for the generations she has touched.

Visitation Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Ln. Dyer, IN.  Funeral service Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
