Marylin Hoecker, a strong and joyful woman, 82, longtime resident of South Chicago Heights, passed away at home in hospice care. She was predeceased by her parents, August and Florence Hoecker. A teacher and an administrator in Crete district 201-U, Marylin earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in school administration from DePaul University. She also served as principal at the former Mount Carmel grade school in Chicago Heights. A career transition from education led her to the anesthesia department at the University of Chicago, where she managed the pain clinic.
Marylin is survived by her sister, Florence Lustig; her brother, Bill (Betty) Hoecker; nephews Mark (Trish) Lustig, Carl (Misty) Hoecker, and Jimmy Hoecker; nieces Loren (Ernie Martinez) Lustig and Mary Florence (Kirt) Van Wieren; as well as many cousins. During Marylin's time in hospice she treasured the many caring visits of the Ernie Martinez family, especially her great-niece Mya and her great-nephew Lorenzo. Finally, the family expresses gratitude for the compassionate attention of a very special hospice nurse, Billie Youngquist.
