Melvin C. Paape Sr. age 88, of Crete, IL, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 at his home. Melvin is survived by his loving wife Barbara nee, Richardson; his loving children: Melvin C. Paape Jr., Valerie (John) Harrell, Michael (Teresia) Paape, Vanessa Paape-Young, and Myron Paape. He is also survived by 15 Grandchildren, 4 Step-Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren. Two sisters, Florence Cameron and Eva Mae Exo, a Sister-in-Law Phyllis Paape and a Brother-in-Law Albert Armellino. He was preceded in death by 2 Brothers Allen and Raymond Paape and 2 Sisters, Bernice Hunholtz and LaVerne Armellino and his parents Martin and Catherine Paape. Visitation for Melvin will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Smits Funeral Homes-Steger Memorial Chapel 3045 Chicago Rd. Steger, IL. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church 1393 Elizabeth St. Crete, IL with services conducted by Rev. Martin Bentz. Mr. Paape''s remains will lie in state for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Crete, IL. Melvin was a 40 year employee of NICOR Gas Co.
