Michael T. Haskins

Michael T. Haskins, age 69, of South Chicago Heights, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2023. Beloved husband of 50 years to the late Netta J. Haskins. Loving father to Christopher (Julie Schmidt) Haskins, Eric (Nancy) Haskins, Amy (Jason) Newhuis, and Michael Haskins Jr. Cherished grandfather to Jenna, Alex, Madison, Matthew, Elena, Ariana, Samantha, Gabriella, Johnette, and Hailey. Dear great-grandfather to Rhiannon and Addylynn. Proud brother to Sandy (John) Rocha, Sherry (Tim) Coulter, and Robin (Tony) Ziccardi. Michael will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Michael served as a volunteer fireman at South Chicago Heights Fire Department. Michael began his law enforcement career as a member of the South Chicago Heights Police Department and later became a member of the Steger Police Department. While serving with the Steger Police Department, Michael became a vital member of many specialty units as well as becoming a K9 Handler. Michael ended his career with the department as a Patrol Sergeant. Michael also served as the Security Officer/Police Liaison at Bloom Trail High School until the time of his retirement in 2015.

Visitation to be held Friday, January 27, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Police walkthrough at 6:00 p.m. at Smits-Steger Memorial Chapel, 3045 Chicago Rd., Steger, Illinois 60475. A prayer service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at Smits-Steger Memorial Chapel and will proceed to St. Liborious Church, 71 W 35 ^th St. Steger, Illinois for a mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Steger, Illinois.
