For most people, Friday, December 29, 2017 was a very cold day. For Minnie Grace Fennema it was the best day of her life. She was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was her first day in eternity, singing and praising her Savior with her husband Gilbert and the rest of the family! What a glorious day in Heaven it was! Minnie was married to Gilbert Fennema, for 54 years, a devoted husband, friend, and spiritual leader for their family. They had 2 daughters, Susan Lynn (Warren) DeJong and Beverly Joy (Gary) Van Noort. Her grandchildren loved her greatly and she loved and prayed for them all! Terri (Fred) Schaaf, Darci (Rich) Van Kalker, Debbie (Ryan) Ohm, Patti (Kevin) Swets, Mark DeJong, Eric (Amanda) Van Noort, Timothy (Dana) Van Noort and Douglas (Jessica) Van Noort; Her great-grandchildren were Matthew, Kyle, and Timothy Schaaf; Ming and Michelle Van Kalker; Austin, Kate and Allison Ohm; Valerie, Adam and Amanda Swets; Carly, Hayden and Hadley Van Noort; Jack, Lia and Pierce Van Noort. Sister of Anna Mae (late Tom) Collins, late Andrew (Betty Jane) Vanderbilt, Ann (late Nelson) Vanderbilt, late Richard (late Annette) Vanderbilt, late Charlotte (late Martin) Zigterman, late Ruth (late Neil) Wiers, late Louis (late Tracy) Vanderbilt, and the late Calvin (late Ann) Vanderbilt. Mom was a faithful member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church and prior of Munster Christian Reformed Church. They loved worshiping their Savior, reading and studying their Bibles and being active members. They shared with their daughters to love and know Jesus personally is the most important thing! Always spend time in prayer and God's Word the Bible. Everything you need to know is in God's Word. Minnie was born on December 22, 1928, a Christmas Baby. She attended school in South Holland and grew up in First Christian Reformed Church in South Holland. Minnie and Gilbert loved to help others. They volunteered at the Bible League Thrift Store since it opened until their health did not permit them to do so. They were humble servants who loved Jesus, their family and others. Minnie lived at Village Woods the past 4 years where she always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She loved living there and made many new friends and met some friends from long ago. We are so grateful for the loving care she received there and as she said many times, I never have to eat another meal alone! I love it here! We request no flowers, they wither and fade but if you would like to make a donation in Minnie's name memorial contributions may be given to the Bible League International or Illiana Christian High School. Visitation for Minnie will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 5:30 p. m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church 3500 Glenwood-Lansing Rd. Lansing, IL 60438, with Rev. Herm Schutt officiating. A private family burial service will take place Wednesday at Skyline Memorial Park – Monee, IL.
