Norma M. Hoecker of Valparaiso, Indiana, formerly of South Chicago Heights, Illinois went to be with her Lord on November 6, 2022, content in knowing that she had played a meaningful role in the lives of many during her 97 years on this Earth. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Hoecker, her eldest son William L. Hoecker, who passed away earlier this year, her parents Ralph and Johanna Wynkoop, her brother Delmar Wynkoop and her beloved sister Beatrice Mannel, who was her near constant companion in the later years of their joint lives.
In 1949, Norma and Bill moved into their first (and only) home on Commercial Avenue in South Chicago Heights, a street on which both Norma and Bill lived as children. From this small house, Norma and Bill raised five children, William L. Hoecker (Jan) of Elgin, Illinois, Thomas R. Hoecker (Sue) of Paradise Valley, Arizona, Beverly S. Smith (Steve) of Valparaiso, Indiana, Charles R. Hoecker (Cheri) of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Paul A. Hoecker of Dubuque, Iowa. The Hoecker kids provided Norma with 11 grandchildren, who in turn provided Norma with 17 great grandchildren.
Norma’s life centered on her family. She proudly displayed all of their pictures on the 1950’s era glass topped coffee table which occupied a place of prominence in her Commercial Avenue living room. Norma was devoted to her family. Their accomplishments are part of her and they are her legacy. Norma will be missed by her family, numerous nieces and nephews and many others who knew and loved her.
