Patricia Ann Common

Patricia Ann Common was born on December 5, 1962, in Lexington, Mississippi, to Mary Montgomery Davis and James Common. Her family later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she attended Hyde Park Academy High School.

After graduating from high school, Patricia remained in Chicago and started her career working at Walgreens Photo Studio downtown Chicago, before finding her professional home at Cole Taylor Bank, where she dedicated over 20 years of service prior to retiring in 2022.

Patricia had two children with Ethan Hardy—Ethan and Octavia—who were the complete joys of her life. Shortly after starting her family, Patricia moved to Blue Island, Illinois, where she would lovingly raise her children and care for her aging parents. She thrived in motherhood, pouring her heart into every moment. From being actively involved in school activities to planning family outings to the movies or Chuck E. Cheese with her children, niece and nephew, Patricia created a home filled with love and laughter.

As her parents grew older, Patricia’s role shifted to that of caregiver. She was a devoted daughter who faithfully cared for her mother, Mary, and her stepfather, Lowell, as their health declined. Her compassion and selflessness were evident to all who knew her.

Patricia was also a proud and devoted grandmother who doted on her grandchildren: Nathaniel, Natalie, Adannaya, and Ndidiamaka. In the year following the passing of her mother, Patricia lovingly cared for newborn Ndidi, pouring even more of herself into her children and grandchildren.

Patricia enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Listening to classic R&B from the 70s and 80s, sharing good food, and spending quality time with family and friends were the highlights of her days. She brought warmth, humor, and joy into every space she entered.

Patricia passed away peacefully on January 7,2026, surrounded by her children and brother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Montgomery Davis and James Common, and her beloved partner, Kevin Moore.

Patricia is survived by her children, Ethan and Octavia; her grandchildren, Nathaniel, Natalie, Adannaya, and Ndidiamaka; her younger brother, James; niece Jasmine; nephew Justin; sister-in-law Donna; daughter-in-law Stella; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.

Visitation Friday, January 30, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL.
