Paul Liakos

Paul Liakos, age 71, of Dyer, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Beloved husband of Mary Liakos, nee Sasuta. Loving father of Paul Liakos and Sarah Liakos; step-father of James Prohaska and Jennifer (Wes) Miller. Proud grandfather of Angelo Liakos, Marc Olena, Aiden Miller and Zevin Prohaska. Loving brother of Frances (Steve) Damalos. Adoring uncle of Nick (Danielle), Angelo, and John (Heather) Damalos. Godfather of Stamati Damalos. Great uncle to Francesca, Adoni, Frances, Paula and Steven. Preceded in death by his parents Angelo and Panagiota, as well as his nephew John and great niece Stassi.

Paul spent his life as an industrial painter and in recent years enjoyed having fun with the students as a school bus driver. He had a great love of horse racing, sports, music, laughter and his Greek culture. He was proud to support his family’s accomplishments in sports, music and education throughout his life. We’ll all miss his frequent texts and love of emojis. He was sure to say “I love you” signing off in every communication, so we hope it’s a reminder to you all to do the same.

Visitation Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (RT.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.), Dyer, IN from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. including a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Ridgelawn Cemetery – Gary, IN at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
