Peter Theodore Nyquist, 71, of Shelbyville, Tennessee entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 26 after a swift battle with cancer. Pete was a beloved husband to his wife, Beth, of 46 years, a loving father to Sarah (Josh) and Jill (Kevin), a proud grandfather of Tyler, Jordan, Mary Beth, Grant, Alyssa, and Anders, a dear brother to John and Becky, a caring son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin and a loyal friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, David, and his mother, Elizabeth.
Pete had an adventurous spirit and a natural zest for life. During his 71 years he worked for the FAA as an air traffic controller, served in the US Army during Vietnam, was a member of a blue grass band as well as a classically trained musician, and owned a reel to reel tape deck business. More than anything else he loved spending time with his family and friends. His generous spirit and twinkly eyed smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him!
A celebration of Peter's life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 with a memorial visitation from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the memorial service at 3:00 P.M. at Smits Funeral Home in Dyer, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to Mission Aviation Fellowship (maf.org) , an organization that Pete supported generously.
