Phyllis Elaine Sims, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2023. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, and made the best pecan pies.
She was born and raised in West Frankfort, Illinois, daughter to the late Thomas and Opal Adkins and sister to the late Thomas Adkins. After graduating high school in 1956, she married her sweetheart Buddy Sims and they moved to Hammond, Indiana, then on to Park Forest, Illinois, where they settled and raised a family.
She is survived by her husband, Buddy, two daughters, Rebecca (Louis) Worley and Jayne (Charles) Valandingham; three grandchildren, Kevin (Kate) Lusk, Chris (Amber) Lusk, and Jessica (Henry) Rodrigues; five great-grandchildren, Darian, Gavin, Allison, Gabriel, and Charles; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Phyllis started her career first as a telephone operator, then spent many years working for State Farm with her husband, Buddy. She was a life-long Church of God member who volunteered in church ministries, most notably in the annual peanut brittle fundraiser and in teaching Sunday School to toddlers. Her family rejoices that she is at home with Jesus.
She will be remembered for her fantastic sense of humor and her willingness to pitch in anytime someone was in need. She will be greatly missed.
