Rex Rowe, 87, of Momence, died Wednesday (June 17, 2009) in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the noon funeral service at the Momence Funeral Chapel.Burial will be in Momence Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Momence VFW Scholarship Fund. Mr. Rowe was a former mayor of Momence for 24 years. He was also a plant manager for Strong Heart Dog Food Company, retiring after 48 years of service, and was a former alderman of Momence for seven years. He was born Dec. 30, 1921, the son of Granvile Lee and Ada May Lawson Rowe. His wife, the former Jean Hansen, whom he married in 1943, in Benton, Ark., died in February 2009. He was one of the original directors of Momence Municipal Bank. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a prisoner of war and Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Momence VFW. Surviving are two daughters, Marsha Rowe (Bill Binkley) of Momence and Sue Casino of Bourbonnais; three grandchildren, Shannon (Eric) DeMack, Nicole (Tim) McIntyre and Jeremy Casino; and seven great-grandchildren.
