Richard "Zeke" Fezekas Sr.

Richard “Zeke” L. Fezekas Sr., age 86, of Dyer, IN, formerly of Calumet City, IL passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Beloved husband of Judith M. Fezekas, nee Cochran. Loving father of Tina (Daryl Zuffa) Groves and Rick (Denise) Fezekas Jr. Cherished grandfather of Brady Fezekas, Ryan Fezekas, and the late Lucas Groves. Dear brother of John A. (Kathy) Fezekas. Devoted uncle of Matthew (Jennifer) Fezekas, Nicole (Derek) Moore, Jeanna (Vince) Skierkiewicz, and John (Bobbi) Brandon. Preceded in death by his parents John and Anne Fezekas, his son-in-law Gerry Groves, and his sister-in-law Charmaine “Tiny” Brandon.

Zeke retired from Acme Steel after 30 years of service. He enjoyed camping and fishing, and he loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle for many years. Zeke was always there to lend a hand with a project and provide the necessary tools. He was loved by many and will be missed.

Visitation Monday, September 14, 2026, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Visitation also on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens—Schererville, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Illinois Chapter, 200 W Monroe St Ste 1801, Chicago, IL.
