Richard F. Mikos

Richard F. Mikos, age 77, of Merrillville formerly of Hammond, IN, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026.  Loving brother of Michael (Patricia) Mikos, Sharon (Howard) Kusen, Carol Mikos Orr, Kasey (Javier Barajas) Reese and the late Kelly Reese.  Kind uncle of Kristi (Michael Junger) Junger, Keith (Jennifer Conner) Mikos, Jessica Orr, Nickolas (Rebecca) Kusen, Chris (Kayla) Orr, Alexis (John Castaneda) Orr, Stephanie (Adam Fessenden) Orr and the late Matt Mikos.  Dear nephew of Patricia (late Frank) Targos, late Stanley Targos, late Walter (late Ann) Targos, and late Jean (late Alex) Janusz, and numerous cousins.  Father of two sons and a granddaughter.  Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mae Mikos. 

Richard was generous and fun loving and always willing to help. His nurturing spirit extended to the rescue of many cats and dogs who brought warmth, laughter, and joy to his home.  His art touched our lives and speaks when words are unable to.  His creativity lives on in the beauty he left behind.  Richard was loved by his family and friends and will be truly missed.

Visitation Sunday, July 19, 2026 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at time pending at Smits Funeral Home James E. Janusz - Director, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN, with Pastor Regin Johnson, officiating.
