Richard was an exceptionally kind, sweet man who always put his faith and family first.
Richard C. Roos, age 91, of Plainfield, IL, formerly of South Holland, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026. Beloved husband of 61 years of Barbara Roos, nee Augustson. Loving father of Lisa (John) Rusnak, Kristen (Robert) Pieczynski, and Robert (Mayumi) Roos. Cherished grandfather of Andrew (Gabrielle) Rusnak, Emily (Ryan) Roetker, Jacob Pieczynski, Grace Pieczynski, Khristian Pieczynski, Kaede Roos, and Anders Roos. Proud great-grandfather of Cameron Rusnak. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ebba Roos and his dear sister LaVerne (Jack) Stocks. Richard was a draftsman and an associate engineer for Commonwealth Edison/Exelon for over 40 years. He was a proud United States Army Veteran, life-long White Sox fan, and active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for over 50 years. Richard was an exceptionally kind, sweet man who always put his faith and family first. Though he was a constant, supportive presence in our lives, he never looked to be the center of attention. Instead, he was a master listener, quietly taking everything in before chiming in with a perfectly timed pun or quick-witted one-liner. For most of his life, he shared his gift of music with his beautiful tenor voice in various church choirs. Richard was dearly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 651 E. 166th St., South Holland, IL with Pastor Mary Appelt-Graves officiating. Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Blue Island, IL will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church. Arrangements entrusted to Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home, South Holland, IL. For further information, please contact 708-333-7000 or visit our online obituary and guest book at www.SMITSFH.com.
