Richard G. Schepel, age 82, of Dyer, IN passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2016. Beloved husband of Gertrude Schepel, nee Eylander. Dear father of Debra (Chuck) Verhagen and Barb (Tom) Van Prooyen. Proud grandfather of Steven (Jana) Verhagen, Ryan Van Prooyen, Kimberly (Chris) Vanden Berg, Jordan Van Prooyen, and Kelsey (Lucas) Vander Wal; great-grandfather ofNathan and Elliot. Loving brother of Bernice (Jake) Dykstra, Norma (Jim) Dekker, Donald (Betty) Schepel, the late Kathleen (Roger) Griffieon, and the late Doris Fennema Clark. Visitation Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30& Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN 46311. Funeral service Friday, April 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Lynwood United Reformed Church (1990 E. Glenwood-Dyer Rd. Lynwood, IL 60411) with services conducted by Rev. Jacques Roets. Private interment Oak Ridge Cemetery - Lansing, IL. Mr. Schepel was the owner of Schepel Buick-GMC-Cadillac which he founded in 1968. He was a member of Redeemer United Reformed Church in Dyer, IN and served on the Bible League International Board for 27 years, and was a long-time member of the board at Mid-America Reformed Seminary.
