Rodney Mikus

Rodney Mikus, age 65, late of Schererville, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2021.  Loving husband of Arlene J. Smolen, nee Skubisz.  Devoted father of Angela Dawn (James Yeargan), Shirley (Michael Moore) Blake, Rodney (Jessica Zollo) Mikus; step-father of Suzanne (Jeffrey) Windish, Robert Smolen, Rebecca (Jon) Gale, and Michelle (Mark) Wrzeszcz.  Dear brother of the late Raymond Mikus (Patricia), Beverly (Bernie) Coderre, Sandy (Jack) Jesse, Ronald (Samantha) Mikus, Richard (Ellen) Mikus, Roy (Karen) Mikus.  Beloved grandfather and great-grandfather of many, as well as the kind uncle of many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Frances Mikus.

Rodney enjoyed golfing, fishing and riding his beloved Harley-Davidson Motorcycle.   Rodney could often be heard exclaiming his love of “God and Country.”   He loved children and was known by Pappa Rod to his Grand Children.  He spent many hours with Arlene sitting in their backyard watching all the birds that would come visit their bird feeders.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial prayer service at 12:30 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt. 30/Pleasant Springs Lane) Dyer, IN.  Rodney was a proud United States Navy Veteran and served on the USS Independence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Amvets, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, are greatly appreciated.
