Roy Herrmann Messerschmidt passed away on May 5, 2020 in his home in Oak Brook, Illinois. He is survived by his adoring and inseparable wife, Yvonne Higgins, children Mara Morris (late Donald Morris), Stephen Messerschmidt (late Jeanine Messerschmidt), and Dionne Castillo (Antonio Castillo). Also survived by his grandchildren Lauren Morris (Rob Hunger), Alexandra Castillo, and Jacqueline Smith (Gabriel); great grandchildren, Evan and Ayden Castillo.

Roy served as a lieutenant in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in Italy with the 15 th Air Force and completed 35 missions over Italy, France, Germany and Romania in the 461 st Bomb Squadron of B-24 Liberators.  He was a Combat Wounded Veteran Navigator/Bombardier.

Roy was employed by the Whiting Corporation in Harvey, Illinois as an engineering manager for over 40 years. Upon retirement, Roy turned his attention to real estate and real estate management, forming Randy Enterprises to handle projects in Flossmoor, Illinois and Naples, Florida.

He also had a career in the arts and media world. He appeared in several movies and in print advertising as well. He enjoyed the theatre, concert and like his wife Yvonne, was a jazz aficionado.

Roy loved the Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks, and Bears. It was so incredible that he finally witnessed the Cubs win the World Series in his lifetime!

He had just celebrated his 97 th birthday on April 17 th and his and Yvonne’s 73 rd wedding anniversary on April 29 th .

His gentle, congenial personality will be sorely missed.
