Area WWII Navy Veteran passes away
Rudolph H. LaRotunda, age 96, of Dyer, IN, formerly of Lynwood, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Beloved husband of Mary Ann LaRotunda, nee McHugh. Loving father of Ravenna Rotunda. Proud grandfather of Michelle and Edward; great-grandfather of Tatiana, Gianna, Timotheos, and Emma. Brother-in-law of Catherine (late Raymond) Rossi. Dear uncle of Donald Rotunda, Colleen (James) Toney, Ray (Lynn) Rossi, Carleen and Joshua Miketinas, Cathleen McHugh, Skylar, and Paul Claussen. Rudolph is also survived by his extended family: Carolyn, Brian, Mary Ann, and Mary Beth. Preceded in death by his first wife Irene LaRotunda, nee Hajik, his brother Nicholas, sister Angelina, and two infant brothers Michael and Johnny, and by his nephew Ronald Rotunda. Also preceded in death by his parents Donato and Rose LaRotunda.
Rudolph’s family originated in Ripacandia, Italy. He was a retired self-employed CPA. Rudolph was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Catholic War Veterans. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Visitation Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Prayer service Monday, November 27, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 Joliet St. Dyer, IN for a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass with Rev. Dave Krolczyk officiating. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery – Alsip, IL.
