Samuel T. Thurmond, age 70, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2014. Dear husband of Sally Thurmond nee Reinke. Loving father of 2 sons, Steven (Sheila) Thurmond and Shannon (Crystal) Thurmond and 2 daughters, Trina Thurmond and Tami Thurmond. Samuel is survived by 1 brother, Ernest (Luanne) Thurmond and by 3 sisters, Elna Robbins, Thelma Bolden and June Christmann. He is also survived by 4 loving Grandchildren and one Great-Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sons; Samuel T. Thurmond Jr, Sean Tyron Thurmond and Robert "Bobby" Stielow-Thurmond, sister; Dorothy Riddle and brother; Johnny Mac Thurmond. Visitation Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Smits Funeral Homes-Steger Memorial Chapel 3045 Chicago Road Steger, IL 60475. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park Cemetery, Monee, Il. Samuel was a security worker at Balmoral Racetrack for 13 years and a member of U.A.W. Local #588.
