Sandra Oppenhuis, nee Swart, age 83, of Lynwood, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026. Beloved wife of the late William R. Oppenhuis. Loving mother of Mike (Linda) Oppenhuis, Michelle (Steven) Van Beek, Ross (Lori) Oppenhuis, and Rob (Kimberly) Oppenhuis. Proud grandmother of Drew (Kara) Oppenhuis, Jocelyn (Nigel) Mathias, Samantha (fiancé Praveen Vimalathas) Oppenhuis, Brett (Brandi) Oppenhuis, Zach (Courtney) Van Beek, Josh Van Beek, Sydnee (Cody) Rudy, Tatum (Mason) Schoon, Tanner Oppenhuis, Taylor Oppenhuis, Lexy Oppenhuis, Max Oppenhuis, and Kyla Oppenhuis; great-grandmother of Avery, Jovie, Gemma, Blakely, Eli, Miller, Wyatt, Rhett, Brooklynn, and expectant twins due this spring. Also survived by many special cousins. Preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Evelyn “Dolly” Swart.

Visitation Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4:30 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane Dyer, IN. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL. Sandy was a hairdresser for over 50 years. She attended Bethel CRC in Lansing for over 50 years. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play their sporting events through the years. Sandy was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
