Sharon Kay Wood

Sharon Kay Wood, nee Burkmier, age 81, of Crete, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2026. She was the beloved mother of Robert (Valerie) Wood and Beth Ann (Scott) Smolinski; the cherished grandmother of nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and the dear sister of Clifford (Corby) Burkmier and the late Brenda (Ed) Gonzalez.

A proud United States Army veteran, Sharon served her country during the Vietnam War. She later devoted more than 40 years to caring for others as a registered nurse at Suburban Hospital and Community Hospital before retiring. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
