Steven S. Springer, PhD, 54, died at his home in Thornton, IL on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Since 1998, he had been the Coordinator of Instructional Technology at South Suburban College, South Holland, IL and a tenured member of the faculty there. Steven Springer was born November 20, 1954, in Chicago, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Kurt C. Springer of Kankakee, IL. He was a graduate of Bishop McNamara High School, Kankakee. He received his bachelors and masters degrees from Loyola University, Chicago, and a PhD from the University of Nebraska. Prior to joining South Suburban College, Dr Springer had worked at Illinois State University, Normal; East Carolina University, Greenville; Doane College, Crete, NE; and College of Lake County, Grayslake, IL. Steven Springer is survived by his sons Andrew, Benjamin, Shane, Dustin, and Scott; a daughter, Margaret (Meg): his brother Michael and Susan Springer of Leawood, KS; a sister, Margaret Lisa Springer, of Oak Forest, IL; and his mother, Janice (Mrs. James) Thomas of Bourbonnais, IL. Visitation will be Sunday, August 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Monday, August 17th at 1:00 pm.
