Terry L. Tonks

Terry L. Tonks, nee McCloskey, age 79, of Thornton, IL passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Loving mother of Bridgette Tonks, George Tonks, and Duane (Maria) Tonks. Devoted grandmother of Devin Tonks and Dylan Tonks. Dear sister of Evelyn McCloskey and John (Debbie) McCloskey. Preceded in death by her parents John and Evelyn McCloskey and five sisters.

Born on May 22,1946, Terry was known for her loving heart, generous personality, kindness toward everyone, and positive outlook on life. A hard worker that would go above and beyond, she became known as the “best cleaning lady”. A perfectionist at her craft, she would leave every house sparkling as if were brand new. Often times a waiting list followed her, but that’s because she was more than a housekeeper. She was a friend, she was a listener, she was the highlight of everyone’s day. She was the joy and positivity that would never fail to put a smile on your face.

The best Mother, the best Grandmother, Terry was lovingly referred to as “Nonnie” - a name given to her by her grandkids. Terry accomplished many wonderful things in her life, but becoming a grandmother was one she treasured most. Every school event, every special occasion, she was there for it all. Elementary school through high school “Nonnie” never skipped a day in sending a hand written note to simply say “have a great day”. She loved spending time outdoors, and spent every single Saturday taking her granddaughter to the barn for horseback riding lessons. Terry enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and could never be found without the best sun tan and a cup of coffee. Terry was the strongest and most optimistic person, even as she faced many health challenges. She lived her life to the fullest, and put everyone’s needs ahead of her own. Terry was and always will be the joy of our lives, and there will never be enough words to express how deeply she will be missed.
