Listen to Obituary

Thomas Francis Andrew Rohm, 73, of South Holland, IL entered into the glory of the Lord on June 28, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was born on October 26, 1944 in Chicago, IL in the family apartment on Carpenter Street, the third of five children to parents Phillip Q. and Marie (Hummer) Rohm II. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War as a cook, attaining the rank of Specialist 4. After the war, he went to cooking school and worked as a chef at the Beverly House Restaurant and the Excelsior Restaurant in downtown Chicago.  He subsequently worked with his brother Phil at a series of fast food franchises and later worked as a field service engineer for Glory USA servicing cash handling machines. He married Patricia Christ on August 16, 1970. The couple had two children, Theresa (1971), and Christina (1974). He was known for telling stories of his life, each of which started with, “When I was a little boy…” Following his retirement he devoted his time to Christian ministry with Life in Messiah and volunteering for Freedom Bound, a 12-step program for conquering chemical dependency at Lake County Jail.  He felt that the most important things in his life were God, marriage, and the lives of his children and grandchildren.  He always urged us to never take one another for granted, and always forgive each other freely.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Theresa (Jim) Fritzsche and Christina Rohm (Scott Lefurgy); grandchildren, Amanda and Jacob Fritzsche; siblings, Carol (Jimmy, deceased) Perell, Mark (Vicki, deceased) Rohm, Mary (Mel) Snyder,  Angene Rohm, wife of his deceased older brother, Phillip Q. Rohm III, and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in South Holland at Smits DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home on Saturday, June 30 at 10:30 AM. A public viewing will follow the service until 4:00 PM. The interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Freedom Bound Jail Ministry, P.O. Box 1672, Highland, IN 46322.
