Verne C. Graves, age 94, of South Holland, IL passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Beloved husband for 67 years of Dorothy Graves, nee Wohlrab. Loving father of Donald (Jackee) Graves, William (Myra) Graves, Nancy (Scott) Boomsma, James (Lisbeth) Graves, and Judy (Eric) Pfister. Devoted grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Eileen (late Bud) Mickelberry. Fond uncle of Robert Newsom. Visitation Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home, 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL. Funeral service Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church (510 Chicago Rd. Thornton, IL) with Rev. John Holyer officiating. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church - Thornton, IL. Mr. Graves was a W.W. II Army Veteran serving in both the Pacific and European Theaters and was the recipient of six Bronze Stars.
