Walter Richard Kunkes Sr., age 92, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Aneta Kunkes. Loving father of Walter Richard (Connie) Kunkes Jr. and Daniel (Karen Kozak) Kunkes and father-in-law of Kari Peterson Kunkes. Cherished grandfather of Sarah, Anita, Scott, Joshua, Nickolas, Heather, Tabitha, and Samantha Nowak. Dear great-grandfather of 8 great grandchildren. Kind uncle to many nieces and nephews. Longtime companion of Adela Flis and her daughter Maggi (Tony Engelthaler) Flis. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. Walter Sr. was known and loved by many and his presence will be deeply missed.

Visitation to be held Friday, March 1, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Smits - Steger Memorial Chapel, 3045 Chicago Rd., Steger, Illinois 60475. A Funeral Service will be held at Smits – Steger Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Interment to follow at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Steger, Illinois.
