Walter Donato Rossi, age 74, of Schererville, IN, Born in Bussi Sul Tirino, Italy to the late Oreste and Rosina nee Spezza Rossi, passed away into eternal life Saturday, March 25, 2017. Beloved husband of 50 years to Maria Rossi, nee Moretti. Loving father of Paolo (Ginny) Rossi, Valeria (Kevin) Galassini, Roberto (Carrie) Rossi, and Johnny (Phonesavanh) Rossi. Loving and devoted grandfather of Marco, Brian, Bianca, Kevin, Matteo, Isabella, Lydia, Mia, Gabriele, and Luca. Dear brother of Idelma (late Dario) Pescara; brother-in-law of Ornella (Joseph) Palumbo, Luciana (Joseph) Chiaramonte, and the late Giorgio Moretti. Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and many paisans both here and in Italy. Walter cherished and devoted himself to his family above all. He was a retired IT consultant for SCT who travelled and saw the world. His hobbies include making wine and dried salami and watching Euro soccer. He also took pride in caring for his fig trees as well. He proudly served in the US Army as a tank driver in the armored division, stationed in Germany with the task of guarding the Berlin Wall. Lying in state Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Dr., Dyer, IN. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL.
