Wilbert "Bert" Kopatz

Wilbert “Bert” Kopatz, age 95 of South Chicago Heights, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Irene A. Kopatz nee Stack. Loving father of Sandra Peabody, Susan (Kevin) Douglas and Lori (late Elmer) Maddamma. Cherished grandfather of six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Dear brother of Martha (late Ted) Saleske. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents Louise and August Kopatz and his siblings Violet Kopatz, Lydia Kopatz, Daniel (Caroline) Kopatz and Mary (Keith) Iwen. Bert will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation to be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Homes - Steger Memorial Chapel, 3045 Chicago Rd. Steger, IL. Funeral Service to be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Steger Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery - Steger, IL.
