Will J. VanderMeyden , age 90, of St. John, IN, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022. Beloved husband for 71 years of Gertrude VanderMeyden, nee DeMaar. Loving father of Pat (Dr. David) Biesboer, Dan (Pam) VanderMeyden, and Joni (Kevin) Ooms. Cherished grandfather of Brad (April) VanderMeyden, Lyndi (Brent) Fox, Kyle (Jamie) VanderMeyden, Brittany (Rev. Rick) Roeda, Mallory (Brian) Plowman, Bart (Rosa) Ooms, Justin (Emily) Biesboer, and Allison (Luis) Maristany; great-grandfather of Caden, Danica, Hayden, Elijah, Owen, Brynn, Camden, Haley, Aspen, Bryce, Mia, Ryk, Shae, Harry, Phoebe, and Adrian. Dear brother of the late Connie (late Paul) Woodnorth, the late Donald (late Gertrude) VanderMeyden, Elaine (Pete) Oostra, and the late John VanderMeyden. Will was a charter member of Cottage Grove Christian Reformed Church. He served in many capacities, including as an elder and deacon, Sunday School teacher, Cadets leader and Youth Group leader. Will served on the Seamans Mission Board. He loved travel, photography, fishing and hunting, jewelry making, and square dancing. Will retired from Whiting Corp. after 44 years of service. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Visitation Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN with services conducted by Rev. Mark Prestriedge. Private interment on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Homewood Memorial Gardens Cemetery – Homewood, IL. Memorial contributions may be given to Illiana Christian High School ( www.illianachristian.org ), Crossroads Prison Ministries ( www.cpministries.org ), or Chicagoland Prison Outreach ( www.cpoministries.org ).
