View Video Tribute THORNHILL William Joseph Thornhill, age 91, of South Holland, IL, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2008. Born January 18, 1917 to Dwight and Emma, he was married to Mary(nee Trela) on January 28, 1939. Mary passed away in 1986. Bill is survived by his three children, Mary Cavallini, Debbie(Donald) Bach, and William(Susan) Thornhill II; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1great-great granddaughter; Dorothy Mahl was a special friend. Funeral service, Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thornton United Methodist Church, 712 Chicago Rd. Thornton, IL with services conducted by Rev. David Kaller and Rev. Norvall Brown. Interment, Evergreen Cemetery " Evergreen Park, IL. Bill quit high school to join the Civilian Conservation Corps and help support his family during the depression. A W.W. II Army veteran, he had a chance to visit Normandy in 2000 where he participated in the evening flag ceremony, one of his greatest memories. He was a member of the American Legion South Holland Post #883 and was in every South Holland Memorial Day parade. He retired from Rogers Cartage and was a loyal Teamster. The Thornton United Methodist Church was an important part of his life. He loved playing cards, especially pinochle and he enjoyed the Thornton Township senior activities. He led a full and happy life enriched by good friends and a loving family. A patriot, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a good friend " he will be missed by many.
